Santa Chiara Park's strategy aims to create a social, cultural, and ecological system that connects the town of Rende, the new river park, and the rural surroundings. The project—composed of two buildings and a park—is a complex system capable of increasing visitors' connection with nature and culture.Access to the park is filtered through a mixed-use building with a rich program, including exhibition spaces, a conference hall, a gym, a caffè, and commercial activities. The three primary variables adopted to reach a systemic continuity with the surroundings are the project's naturalization levels, functions, and the mobility system. The landscape design approach is structured as a mixed rural fabric composed of areas with different natural gradients structured to develop a system of relations. Two ponds shaped as a single landscape element are connected through a depuration system, and the natural areas offer a plurality of different thematic scenarios to stimulate the visitors' curiosity and fantasy and diversify the landscape. The park provides recreational, sports, and cultural functions, as well as new ones, creating a complex system capable of increasing the chances for visitors to connect with nature. The strategy is to locate all the functions, not following a rigid zoning logic but creating multiple attraction elements spread in the natural areas. Similarly, the mobility system is not structured following an economic logic —the fast connection— but an experience. The aim is to obtain a multi-colored and unpredictable landscape, a place where behind every tree, there's a surprise instead of a rigid patchwork ruled by economic or functional rules.

Blur A Bridge is shaped by the need to minimize the physical, environmental, and visual impact of such a big infrastructure on the area between the two banks of the Arno River it connects—a rich ecosystem that must be preserved.
Following the site's environmental, dimensional, and geological characteristics and the available budget, the bridge is designed as a structural system supported only at its ends. It comprises two parallel trusses connected by a deck placed at their intermediate height, which secures them together and serves as a road. This design reduces the use of concrete, replacing it with steel and other recyclable materials.
Considering the visual impact of this infrastructure, the target is to reduce it through volumetric and chromatic means. The two trusses are covered with aluminum panels forming discontinuous vertical stripes mounted more densely next to the banks and sparse at the center of the bridge. At the same time, the color of the panels blurs from the green of the trees next to the banks into the light blue of the sky at the center of the bridge.
Regarding mobility, the bridge has a roadway with a single lane for each direction, bike paths between the lanes and the trusses, and pedestrian paths inside the trusses.

B.CEAP - Balangero and Corio Energy Art Park is the ultimate frontier in the panorama of local economic and natural regenerations thanks to its mixed program composed of research, production, teaching, and exhibiting functions.

The strategy starts from the regeneration of the former asbestos mining site and processing buildings, continues with the re-naturalization of the site, and ends with the creation of an international pole for contemporary art and sustainable energy development.

Driven by the aim to revitalize what once was an economy with international relevance, the program is based on a whole new set of functions: an Alpine natural park, a contemporary art center offering residence programs to young and well-known artists, a widespread art museum, a research and production center for sustainable energies, a widespread scientific museum about sustainable energies.

In order to enhance the visitors' experience and the research outcomes, the spaces hosting the different functions are often not strongly divided but overlapping. The 310 hectares of the site are organized through an irregular hexagonal grid that shapes both the zoning pattern and the paths network. The choice of the hexagonal geometry depends on the resulting balance between its high adaptability to this specific orography and its low invasiviness on the ground. At the same time, because of its irregularity, the proposed geometry follows the idea of a landscape with areas of different sizes governed by a soft and heterogeneous zoning structure. In fact, the hexagonal geometry allows the creation of a pattern through th infinite repetition of the generative element, its deformation, extension, and reduction, tolerating any incompleteness without losing its geometric identity: the susceptibility to the deformation of its regular geometry and its adaptability to the orographic system is the necessary characteristic for the visual and territorial representation of a complex and articulated program like the one expected for the planning and management of the area. The hexagonal link becomes a “physical tool” to colonize the territory and to carry out the strategy of the project.

Agro is composed of two blocks of different sizes, each one with two housing buildings and public space.

The competition base is a never-built project that needs to be rethought and enhanced because it is outdated regarding the current energetic standards and living needs. Due to the limited budget, the strategy focuses on the facades, on the apartment typologies, on ensuring good energy standards, and on the public space, without changing the volumes of the given project.

The public space focuses on offering a high level of naturality and different kinds of relational spaces capable of welcoming all the inhabitants: playgrounds for the kids, bocce fields, and meeting “squares” for the adults. The system of paths is studied to offer a good balance between connecting all the buildings’ entrances with all the activity areas and guaranteeing the maximum availability of natural space. At the same time, its shape was designed to avoid a rigid and functionalist strategy but searching for an appealing and always different walk. The paving material guarantees a good absorption of the rainwater. The trees are all local species and guarantee a good microclimate for the site and a good shadowing of the buildings.

The new facades of the buildings have more windows and balconies to enhance the quality of the apartments and are brightly colored in opposition to the greyness of the typical social housing of Rome's outskirts. The apartments are updated to new typologies to fulfill the needs of contemporary families. The energy-saving strategies are totally revisited with the latest construction materials and technologies.

When De Gasperi Met the Circles is an organic and coherent singularity matching architecture, nature, and humanity.
The functions in the new piazza are now considered activity zones or, more precisely, relational attractors; they are meeting points capable of generating relational processes.
By acting on the thin border between space and relational processes, the project turns the design process into something broader than what it is usually considered, becoming a programmatic and processual action. Such an understanding means considering the physical space as something capable of stimulating and enriching the relational and social dynamics happening in it.
The architectural project starts as a spatial definition and as a hypothesis of a not-yet-articulated future use. It continues as a process through the continuous and becoming daily relations between architecture and humanity, between fixed physical structures and ever-changing human dynamics.
Piazza Alcide de Gasperi aims to be a place where people can be free. It is an homage to the politicians and statesmen who wrote the Italian Constitution and to the hard work they did to create the Repubblica Italiana and to make it grow thanks to what was a new concept of public matter.

José Saramago is the new cruise terminal of Lisbon, it is the new filter between the city and sea. Usually, harbors can be assimilated to a borderline that divides the city from the sea. In fact, these two physically and systematically different places need an intermediate space, they need the physical thickening and the consequent programmatic enrichment of the element that separates them. Thickening a borderline means mediating between two different realities, it means conceiving a system that, through its structurization, is capable to generate a new place.

Thus, the project site and its closer extensions can be meant both as a linear space capable to host a cruise terminal and as a public space capable to welcome every inhabitant and visitor of Lisbon, even who is not going on a cruise. This complex mediation system between two different realities can be named filtering line. In fact, the filtering line is an interaction system between the environment of the city and the one of the harbor, between their resources and possibilities. It reorganizes all the mobility flows of the area dividing the urban and the harbor ones; it predisposes the pedestrian paths and the connections between the city and the harbor; it rationalizes the harbor routes; it realizes the service facilities and mixed-use architectures to be used by travelers and to attract visitors; it transforms the harbor from simple infrastructure to an opportunity enriching the identity of the city.Working on this interface zone means developing a complex urban project capable to connect different parts of the seafront with the rest of the urban pattern. From this point of view, the filtering line is a line that becomes a space system, a mix of activities and public spaces connected through pedestrian paths and creating a long promenade paysagée. The filtering line is a complex system with a variable section, it’s a permeable element and not a limit for the city/harbor interaction as it includes both the functions of the city and the ones of the harbor finding a precise balance between them

Location Rome, Italy
Area 124 apartments 36.500 m2; housing services 1.200 m2; parking 3.300 m2; public space 36.500 m2

Year 2010
CMYK Pass is the urban regeneration of a working-class outskirt in Rome. The strategy aims to solve the existing problems through the systematic rethinking of the relationships between the various elements of the project: a new system of mobility that prioritizes pedestrians, a new system of public spaces and green areas, new spaces for community services and commercial activities to enhance local identity and safety, the energetic improvement of the façades of the buildings, the addition of new residential units to respond to the current housing demand and living needs.

To obtain total pedestrian continuity of the area, enhance its identity and safety, the project rearranges both the viability system and the ground floor of the buildings.

The section of the streets has been modified enlarging the sidewalks and lowering the level of the parking areas (-1.4m), which are now covered by elevated public squares (+1.6m) thus to separate pedestrian activities and viability. A system of big round holes on the squares gives creates a more joyful appeal and, at the same time, makes the parking always under visual control to avoid vandalism and thefts.

The rearrangement of the ground floor private storage spaces allows locating new community services and commercial activities that face all the public areas and the building crossing paths, guaranteeing safety and social sustainability. This strategy permits also to keep the courtyards as natural places instead of building new buildings to locate the new activities as requested by the competition brief.

This new organization of the public space creates a total continuity that encourages its use and enriches the relational identity of the compound.

Regarding the housing issues, new apartments are placed on the ground floor and the terraces of the buildings. All the typologies on the ground floor are building crossing and have small gardens for better privacy. On the terraces, the apartments have been planned to save more space as possible to create new collective spaces. Now, every group of apartments connected by the same stairway has community spaces as a playground and a winter garden.

Regarding the energetic and environmental improvements, the goal was reached thanks to the use of active systems as solar panels and passive systems as greenhouses accumulating the heat. Because the façades were already provided with good insulation layers, the intervention was limited to the application of vases with trees to increase the shading and of colored panels to give a more joyful identity to these concrete buildings.
